![]() I have been thinking about going back to honda MTF anyway because allthough the redline works fantastic, I'm interested what it will feel like now that Ive used a different fluid to go back to OEM, plus that on cold days, the notchyness gets irritating as hell. Good afternoon/morning, Im an owner of 2009 Mazda 6 i. that noise comes from the front and sitting inside i can c car is shaking more with that grinding noise but as. it doesnt happen in neutral or parking gears. ![]() (ya i know pretty old for 2011 ) But anyhow, the problem is this kind a grinding noise with little shaking when i press brakes in drive gears. Which is wierd as I used it as a recommendation from one of the local honda gurus who swears by it, and have been using it for the last 20,000 miles without problems Shifts are very smooth with the fluid but on winter days, shifts can be super notchy since the fluid has more viscocity than hondas fluid and viscous fluids and cold weather don't always mix. i have mazda protege 97 DX A/T 140K miles. Hmmmmmmm.I just checked the redline site and you are right it says its not recommended for MOST synchro applications (it used to not say this on the site dammit ). I have had this problem on old cars where the syncros failed, but i find it hard to. Heres what happens going 80mph, i take it out of 5th gear and put it in neutral, wait till the RPM goes back to 1k, I then step on the clutch all the way and shift into 5th gear -this is when i get the grind. SOURCE: 1997 Mazda protege transmission, Hard shifting from 1st gear. ![]() This will happen suddenly in most cases, usually when the car is warm. Some people mix the shockproof with MTF or MT-90 though. I noticed that the 5th gear grinds on high gear. Mazda vehicles that use a transverse 4-speed automatic transmission designated as LA4A-EL can experience problems ranging from gear slippage to erratic or failed gearchanges. At what speed and RPM do you generally shift from 1st to 2nd gear As /u/(BATMAN) said, I believe a design deficiency of the 1st-Gen (2004-2009), at least, was the change to friction coating-based single-cone synchros for the low gears (as opposed to metallic, dual-cone synchros of the well-regarded 90s-era Mazda 626 5-speed, for example). Redline's website didnt seem to recommend the shockproof on a synchro gearbox ("dog-ring type, generally not sycro application ") so I never thought to give it a try. ![]()
